Stump Grinding in Basingstoke, the Alton Area and all Locations in Berkshire and Hampshire

If you have recently had a tree surgery job undertaken, like a tree removal, or if you own a garden or grounds with the remnants of a felled tree, a stump grinding service can clear the land and reduce the potential for unhealthy plant growth, such as honey fungus, and pest infestations. Grinding out a stump will also remove tripping hazards, making a property safer especially if you have children.

The team at Oakfall Tree Surgery covers the following areas:

Alton | Basingstoke | Farnham | Fleet | Hartley Wintney | Hook

We also cover all locations in Berkshire and Hampshire.

This service requires the use of specialist stump grinding equipment and we advise that you always seek the advice of a professional tree surgeon instead of taking on the work personally. We can grind a stump as part of a standalone service or, if you prefer, we rid your garden or grounds of stumps as a part of a site clearance service.

The Process

Prior to starting a stump grinding job, tree surgeons clear the work area of debris, such as stones and small rocks, which could damage the equipment used. It is also important that we check the land for underground utilities because a mechanical stump grinder could cut into pipework, or into an associated cable management installation.

After clearing the site, we position the stump grinder over a tree’s remnants prior to the cutting wheel being lowered into place.

The cutting wheel rotates at speed and, when it contacts a stump, a tree surgeon will move it back and forth to take down the remnants in fine layers. The objective of stump grinding is to take back what remains of a felled tree to below-ground level. The procedure might leave behind a hole, but this can be easily backfilled with chips.

With the land cleared, you can enjoy a safer outdoor space or, if a clearance has been planned to facilitate a building or landscaping project, the site will be left fully enabled for all future works.

If you would prefer not to use our stump grinding service, it is our advice that you still have the roots extracted to protect the health of plant life in the immediate vicinity. Some property owners use a stump as a feature, often as a seat, as a platform or as a base for planting. Let us know what your intentions are, and we will modify the service so that our work always achieves the desired outcome.

Should you notice a mushroom-shaped fungus on a stump, we urge that you call us immediately. This is likely to be honey fungus, which is harmful to other plants and poisonous to people if it is eaten raw.

With stump grinding available in Alton, Basingstoke, Farnham, Fleet, Hartley Wintney and Hook, as well as in all surrounding areas, the team at Oakfall Tree Surgery is perfectly positioned to leave land in a safe, controlled condition but without hazards left in place.
